Romney blasts Obama on Iran, Israel

TAMPA, Fla. (JTA) -- President Obama?s approach to Iran has made Americans ?less secure,? Mitt Romney said in his speech accepting the Republican presidential nomination.

?Every American was relieved the day President Obama gave the order, and Seal Team Six took out Osama bin Laden,? Romney said Thursday evening at the Republican National Convention. ?On another front, every American is less secure today because he has failed to slow Iran?s nuclear threat.?

He criticized Obama?s strategy of diplomatic engagement with Iran. ?In his first TV interview as president, he said we should talk to Iran,? Romney said. ?We?re still talking, and Iran?s centrifuges are still spinning.?

While the speech was mostly focused on introducing Romney to the nation and to attacking Obama?s economic record, the GOP nominee devoted several paragraphs to foreign policy. He accused Obama of having ?thrown allies like Israel under the bus," echoing language he had previously used in criticizing the president's approach to the Jewish state.

Romney nodded only briefly toward social issues.

?As president, I will protect the sanctity of life. I will honor the institution of marriage,? Romney said. ?And I will guarantee America?s first liberty: the freedom of religion.?

He also disparaged the Obama administration?s emphasis on countering climate change.

?President Obama promised to begin to slow the rise of the oceans,? Romney said, pausing amid laughter from the assembled delegates, ?and to heal the planet. My promise is to help you and your family.?

Arcade Party Ideas For Kids and Teens - Moms & Munchkins

Arcade Party IdeasAn arcade party doesn?t necessarily have to be held at an arcade. There are plenty of fun & inexpensive ways to set up your own arcade at home. Here you?ll find fun party ideas for invitations, decorations, food, treat bags and of course games! This is a great theme for teenagers who love video games!

    Arcade Party ? Invitations:

A fun idea for an arcade invitation is a ticket style invitation inviting them to your newly created home arcade. It could include words like:

    • Please join us for the Grand Opening of {Child?s Name}?s Arcade!
    • Game On!
    • Bring your best game playing skills for {Child?s Name}?s Arcade Championships!
    • Let the games begin!
    • Calling All Gammers!

    Arcade Party ? Decorations:

One of the great things about an arcade party is that the games also go towards your party decor. I?ll talk more about games in the next section. To set the scene for an arcade at home, you?ll need plenty of fun arcade signs, neon lights and spotlights. If you can, dim the lights in the party area and use neon & flashing lights instead.

There are also plenty of arcade inspired stuffed animals like Pac Man and Donkey Kong that could be placed around the party area. Here are a few other ideas for signs, tokens on tables, wall decals and more!

    Arcade Party ? Activities:

The key to a fun arcade party is plenty of arcade games! Most of us don?t have a home filled with arcade games so you?ll have to improvise a little bit.

To start with, you may want to use small white boards at each game station to record high scores during the party. The person with the highest score at each game could be given a prize at the end of the party. You could also hand out tickets to each player who participates in a game. The players could then use these tickets later to fill their favor bag at the end of the party. I?ll discuss this in a bit more detail later!

Most of the fun games shown below are under $30 and they all fit perfectly into an arcade party theme. You may also want a few timers for some of the games to record how many points players score within a specified time frame.

Some fun arcade game ideas are:

    • Video games like racing games and dancing competitions
    • Small handheld pinball games
    • Over the door hanging basketball games
    • Darts to pop balloons on a cork board
    • Bowling games
    • Whack A Mole (my favorite arcade game!)
    • Water guns & shooting rubber ducks
    • Claw game for trying to grab prizes out of a clear container (you could also use salad tongs for this and have guests close their eyes and grab a small prize out of a large box ? for even more difficulty, you can blindfold them and spin them around a couple of times)

    Arcade Party ? Food:

A fun idea would be to set up a concession stand with food items to ?purchase? with tickets or tokens that the guests are given as they enter the party. Some food ideas are:

    • Hot Dogs
    • Donkey Kong burgers
    • Mario?s Pasta Special
    • Popcorn

    Arcade Party ? Dessert:

Besides cake and cupcakes, an arcade party could include fun desserts like:

    • Pac Man cookies using Pac Man cookie cutters
    • Pinballs (regular cake pops iced in grey or silver icing to make them look like pinballs)
    • Cotton Candy

    Arcade Party ? Favors:

When guests arrive to the party, they can be given small plastic cups with tickets and tokens. The tokens can be used for food at the concession stand and the tickets can be traded in for fun prizes. Each guest can be given a personalized treat bag that they can fill with whatever prizes they choose from the prize area. You can label each prize with how many tickets each one is worth. Guests can then use the tickets they?ve been given or have won during the party to fill their favor bags to take home. Some fun ideas for an arcade party prize area include:

    What?s your favorite arcade game?

The Affordable Care Act's ?Penalty?: If You Don't Buy Health ...

Note to readers; a longer version of this post originally appeared on HealthInsurance.org, along with a penallty calculator.

Despite the hullabaloo about the Affordable Care Act?s mandate that nearly everyone puchase heath insurance in 2014?or pay a penalty?the Congressional Budget Office estimates that only 1.4 percent of Americans will wind up paying the tax.

That is because the vast majority of us either have health insurance, or are exempted from the mandate for any one of a number of reasons.? For example, at the end of 2014?you will?owe no tax if:

    • your income is low enough that your share of premiums (after federal subsidies and employer contributions) would total more than 8 percent of your income;
    • your income is below the income tax filing threshold, and so you?re not required to?file taxes;
    • you were uninsured for less than three months of the year (If over three, the penalty is pro-rated);

As a result the Urban Institute?estimates that just 6??percent of the population (roughly 18 million Americans) will even have to consider the question: ?Should I purchase health insurance, or pay a tax?? That?s right: a whopping 94 percent of the population will?have no reason to worry about paying a penalty.

And 11 million of that 18 million will be low-income or middle-income Americans who are eligible for a government subsidy to help cover the cost of their premiums. Chances are, most of them will take the government up on its offer.?

That still leaves about 7 million Americans who?are uninsured today and won?t qualify for a?subsidy. ?But many of them lack coverage because they suffer from a pre-existing condition.? As a result,??most insurers won?t sell them a policy, and those?who will cover them demand sky-high premiums.??Under the ACA, insurers will no longer be able to shun the sick;?nor will they be able?to charge them more.

If You Decide to Gamble, And Go Without Insurance, How Much Will You Pay?

Inevitably, some people will decide not to buy comprehensive insurance because they?re healthy and wealthy enough that they feel they can cover their own?medical expenses. Others wil refuse to purchase a policy as a matter of principle: some Americans just don?t like the? insurance?industry, and resent being told they should buy their products.?

The size of the tax they pay will depend on how many people are in their household, and how much they earn. In? 2014 an individual who earns $35,000 and chooses to opt out will owe just $95? though if he?earns $250,000, he?ll wind up paying $2,500 or roughly 1% of adjusted gross income above $9,500.? (The tax applies only to income above and beyond the filing threshhold; in 2011 that was $9,5000 for most singles and $19,000 for most married couples. )

?Over the next two years, the penalty rises. In 2016, a middle-income family of four earning $60,000 would?owe about $2,085 ? still far less than the?tax a more affluent family would pay. (For example, a household reporting?adjusted gross income of ?$200,000?would owe?roughly?$4,300. In other words, this is a progressive tax

But there is a cap on how much any household will owe: according to the law the tax cannot exceed the national average premium for ?bronze level? health plans offered through exchanges. These bronze plans will? cover 60 percent of? medical expenses, and the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) estimates that in 2016 the average premium would be about $4,750 for single policies and $12,250 for family policies. (This sounds expensive, but keep in mind?that??middle-class? Americans?who don?t have employer-based insurance will receive subsidies from government to help cover the cost. For example, a family of three earning?$54,930?would end up?paying just $5,218 for a ?silver? plan that covered 70% of?the family?s ?medical expenses.

Why is the penalty so high? Because if a healthy wealthy?person decides?to opt out?and then later becomes sick? he will be able to change his mind and buy insurance. The point of?the Affordable Care Act is?to make sure that everyone has access to healthcare; no one will be barred from the system.? At the same time, it?s not fair to let someone wait until they are sick before entering the insurance pool while others have been paying into that pool for years.? So those who choose not to buy coverage will pay penalties in lieu of premiums ?and those taxes will keep?our heatlh care system afloat.

    Penalty Calculator

I?ve written a more detailed post for healthinsurance.org? describing exactly how the penalty works, and answering some ?frequently asked questions? about the tax.?I have also helped healthinsurace.org develop a penalty calculator. If you?type in a few facts about yourself and your household, the calcualtor will tell you how much you would owe in 2014, in 2015 and in 2016.

Seriously? Do you feel some are more qualified, more understanding , more able to offer help to others if they have had more relationships, more sexual experiences ??

    *****************************************

A little bit ago, I got a pm from a member saying this to me......."Since you married the only man you have ever slept with, you don't know very much about modern relationships" , pointing out again..that I have very little "experience".

She & a couple others felt I was being judgmental on a recent thread with my views.. "talking out of my ass" was the expression. I am not upset to receive this... if this is how I am viewed, I would want to know....

I agreed with her... I could see how 1 of my posts would be taken badly... I was wrong, I deleted it & apologized. None of us get it right all the time.

Her point is .... I am too Old Fashioned minded in this day & age , stressing a couple times my not understanding modern relationships.

So what does others look for - in advice giving ?

I can only say for myself, but I enjoy reading what you have to say, so I can see it from a different viewpoint. I lost my viginity at 13 yr old and have been with several men since then. You have your opinions and your advice and I think it's valuable. That's just IMHO

I don't want this to be about me... just saying, obviously it's the reason I am asking.... but yeah... I am curious to hear HOW others may feel about reading views they don't share, if they skip them entirely..or still let them in... not open the trash can.

I am one who likes to hear all viewpoints, I don't care where you are coming from, what religion you are, how old you are, if you've had a horrible relationship or a great one, I FEEL it can still be very valuable...

So I say....if that is how you feel....speak it

If it works for you... speak it

If you learned something along the way...share it

Even if just one line of a post from the most unsuspecting poster helps, then it is worth it, could be insightful to another.

My son is sitting here with his GF, the Teacher asked a simple classroom question...what makes a good person.. his answer: Compassion. Yeah, I was thinking....that would make a good POSTER too.

I tend to think those who have walked in similar shoes ARE accually more helpful and understanding.. but obviously I haven't walked in too damn many shoes here. So yeah.. It's a curious question.

I like to see all viewpoints, and I'm open to debate (when it pertains to a thread that I start). I personally choose not to engage in pizzing contests with other members, I don't see the point of that. I'll express my opinions if/when I feel that they are appropriate and could benefit the OP.

I take advice from those that offer it. Each person here comes from a different background, bringing their own issues, beliefs, and past experiences with them. There are some things that I can relate to, and there are other things that I can't because I've never experienced them myself.

It's up to the OP of each thread to decide what advice, if any, to follow. Knowing the background of the person you are receiving advice from is helpful, it allows you to make that decision.

    SA,
The common themes in your posts are:
    - Genuine and deep love
    - Compassion
    - Commitment
    - Honesty
    - Empathy
    - Integrity

    Lets see what's lacking:
    - Narcissism
    - Sense of entitlement
    - Blcthiness
    - Hostility towards men
    - Hostility towards anyone

Doesn't mean I agree with everything you post. Does mean that the vast majority of people here benefit from reading you.

I wish more people were old fashioned.
