Be at home, in school, or at work, safety is always the main priority of any individual. In most companies, assuring the safety and health concerns of the employees are two of the main priorities of any good leadership. Managers and business heads must see to it that the company has concrete plans which cater to the welfare of its employees. Leadership and safety goes hand in hand. A good leader does not only mind how to care for the company but also for its employees. The employees serve as vital parts of a company. When these parts become broken, the company will not function effectively or might even die.

In what ways can a company implement safety in the company? Most companies hold seminars or lectures wherein safety concerns are being brought out and discussed with the employees. Health and safety experts are invited to talk on ways how one can ensure his or safety and the safety of others inside the company premises. However, most companies find this strategy a failure. Whenever they conduct one, they find their employees not taking it seriously. Most doze off while the speaker is having a lecture. That is the reason why most experts suggest using gimmicks, such as games and drills, during the lecture. This will somehow spark interest from the audience and at the same time, get their attention on the safety guidelines being discussed by their safety leader or speaker.

Another effective means of promoting safety awareness to employees and is found most effective is through mock drills. Mock drills refer to the annual fire and earthquake drills that most companies and schools conduct. You might see your employees having fun or mocking the drill literally at time but these drills are proven effective. Most people remember and learn by doing. Through mock drills, employees get to apply what they have read in the safety manual during surprise fire or earthquake drills. The company, at the same time, gets to evaluate if their current safety procedures are effective or need amendments.

Lastly, safety in the workplace will be most implemented if there is safety training. The current trend in most companies nowadays is conducting safety training or leadership programs. Employees who have gone through safety trainings are found to be great help to the company in promoting safety to others. They can model safety procedure and are trained in the proper and effective procedures in ensuring safety in the workplace.

Location, Location, Location ? Geography Matters in Law School Employment 2010-2011

NALP notes that for the Class of 2010 -- and the Class of 2011?--?two-thirds of all employed graduates were employed in the state in which their law school was located. This suggests location matters.

Is location important to employment results at a large number of schools? Are some law schools more national than others? Are some states more ?local? in hiring than other states? The answers are yes and yes and yes.

ANALYZING SCHOOL SPECIFIC DATA -- This analysis is based on the Class of 2010 and Class of 2011 employment outcome data reported on the ABA Section of Legal Education website, excluding the law schools in Puerto Rico. This means there are 195 law schools in this analysis (if the two Widener campuses are combined).

The law schools were asked to report the three states with the most employed graduates and the number of employed graduates in each of those three states. Taking those totals as a percentage of employed graduates, and paying attention to the states identified, one can get some idea of which schools are ?regional? and which schools might actually have a more ?national? footprint. The simple result of the analysis is that the vast majority of schools are ?regional? rather than ?national.?

Thumbnail

  1. For both the Download Class of 2010?and the Download Class of 2011, there were 117 law schools for which more than 67 percent of their employed graduates are employed in the state in which the law school is located.
  2. For the Classes of 2010 and 2011, there were 144 and 145 law schools, respectively, for which more than 67 percent of their employed graduates are located in the state in which the law school is located or an adjacent state, and 104 law schools for which more than 80 percent of their employed graduates are located in the state in which the law school is located or an adjacent state.
  3. There were only 46 law schools for which less than 67 percent of their employed graduates were employed in the state in which the law school is located or an adjacent state for both the Classes of 2010 and 2011.

Notably, 28 of these 46 law schools are in the USNews top-50, for which it is easily imaginable that the employment geography is much more national than regional. For many of these 46 law schools, two of the three states with the most employed graduates generally are not adjacent to the state in which the law school is located, suggesting some national reach. The three non-adjacent jurisdictions reflected most frequently should not be surprising ? California, the District of Columbia and New York. Of the 18 other law schools, nine law schools are ranked in the alphabetical list of schools -- schools one generally would consider regional ? while nine are ranked between 51 and 145 in USNews.

Thumbnail

Perhaps most significantly, due to the incomplete nature of some of the data sets, this summary probably understates the number of law schools for which the employment outcome data suggests the law school is more regional than national. Several of these 46 law schools come in with 60% or more of their employed graduates employed in the state of the law school or an adjacent state for both years -- Boston College, Minnesota, NYU, Ohio State and Penn State ? and if the data were to include graduates employed in all adjacent states, the total for these schools well might exceed 67 percent.

In sum, then, more than 76% of all law schools and more than 87% of law schools outside the USNews top-50 had more than 67% of their employed graduates in the state in which the law school is located or an adjacent state for either the Class of 2010 or the Class of 2011.

LOOKING AT STATE SPECIFIC DATA -- NALP also notes that for the Class of 2010, there are 30 states in which two-thirds or more of the jobs were taken by graduates from law schools in those states. (Jobs & JDs, Class of 2010, p. 69)? Taking NALP?s state-specific data for the Class of 2010 in conjunction with the ABA?s data for the Class of 2010, there actually are 35 states in which two thirds or more of the jobs were taken by graduates of law schools in those states or an adjacent state and 30 states in which three-quarters or more of the jobs within the state were taken by graduates of the law schools in the state or in an adjacent state.

Thumbnail

Again, this data likely understates the results. For example, in Arizona, Colorado, Connecticut, Maryland, Tennessee, and Virginia, roughly 65-75 percent of jobs within the state were taken by graduates from law schools within the state or an adjacent state. But with several schools in adjacent states not counted in the tallies because these states were not one of the top three states for employed graduates from those schools, one could infer that were graduates from all schools from adjacent states included the percentage might exceed 75 percent. (Notably,?13 of the?15 states?with less than?67 percent of jobs taken by graduates of the law school in the state or law schools in adjacent states are states with modest populations and only one law school (or no law school)?? Alaska, Delaware, Hawai?i, Idaho, Maine, Montana, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Vermont, and West Virginia.? The other two states?are Utah and?Virginia. The?District of Columbia?also falls into this category.)

LOCATION MATTERS --?In sum then, location matters. For the vast majority of law students at the vast majority of law schools, the vast majority of reasonable employment prospects associated with going to a given law school are going to be in the state in which the law school is located or an adjacent state. In the absence of a unique or specific aspect of a law school's program that might make a particular law school very appealing,?this suggests that location should matter when considering a law school, perhaps more than ranking.

For example, if a prospective student has a choice between going to a higher ranked regional law school in a state in which the student does not anticipate practicing or living (and perhaps paying more in tuition), or a lower ranked regional law school in the location in which he or she hopes to live and work professionally (and perhaps paying less in tuition), the prospective law student should give serious consideration to attending the lower-ranked regional law school in the location in which he or she hopes to live and work professionally. This will make it easier to begin networking while in law school and to facilitate employment opportunities in the region in which the student is interested in practicing law and living. (And it may help the prospective student save money if the lower-ranked regional school happens to cost less (if it is a public school, for example), or if the prospective student has a more competitive LSAT/GPA profile at the lower-ranked regional school such that the student may be eligible for a scholarship.)?

News and Society Blog-Economics: Is The US Economy Circling ...

This is a medical term used by hospital staff when a patient is beyond all hope of saving but is still alive, still clinging to the very last bit of life till it too is gone, and the patient slips quietly into death. They are no longer a part of this world and gone forever. Is this an accurate description of our economy right now in its present state of being. Has the real estate market hit bottom? How much longer can the federal reserve print money before our dollar is worth absolutely nothing? How much time do we have before our economy is severely effected by the reform of Petrodollar recycling, which would result in the ultimate collapse of the US dollar here in America and abroad. These are all questions investors want to know in today's uncertain economy.

According to The Wall Street Journal's, "Money Watch", a recent study has shown the housing market is slowly on the rise 7.5% over last year at this time. Interest rates have never been lower for financing single family housing. The only problem with this situation is that it really does not matter how low the interest rate is, if your worried about whether you will have a job from one day to the next. The result is that the average citizen is going to hold on to what ever money they have due to a lack of consumer confidence in an uncertain economy. People worried about jobs and the future don't spend money. They also don't spend money on consumer goods which further hurts our already stressed economy. What money they do spend on housing and consumer goods is getting even smaller due to shrinking value of our American dollar which has been quoted to be worth only 4 cents per dollar, thanks to the federal reserve banking system of America.

Every time, the federal reserve creates a need to print more money, it connects with the US Congress to make that happen. In the past, every dollar printed by the fed used to be backed by gold. This law was done away with in 1971. After that date, the federal reserve had a free reign to create money out of nothing and backed only by a promise to pay. The Fed will not account for what they do nor do they feel that they should. This what they believe as they control the cash flow of America's private citizens. Since they are a private company, and connected to the us congress, much information is withheld from the American public on their activities, intentions, and ownership of the federal reserve banking system. They are no more Federal than Federal Express. How is it that an independent company in the private sector has a hold on this country's finances without a transparent view of them by the American public and without accountability of any kind. They basically have a free reign to do what they want when they want it, which will bring this country down financially to its knees. This will not stop unless the federal reserve banking system is abolished, and our governing bodies are separated from the financial institutions of the private sector. In addition, corporations should not be allowed to contribute any monies to any political parties of any kind ever again.

Before the US dollar totally collapses, American citizens will only have to monitor of collapse of the "Petrodollar System, "which now is in the process of reforming negotiations with OPEC and other foreign nations. Their goal is to change the currency for buying oil from US dollars to Eros. First, one must understand the petrodollar system and how it works. For foreign countries to buy oil, they must first exchange their own currency for US dollars. That is what the US world leaders decided. Foreign countries in turn sell the US their products to get a higher rate of exchange for US dollars. All excess profits made by these countries are then recycled back into a US Federal Reserve Account. So as a result, the federal reserve is able to make major profits from the out going dollars to other countries and again when they recycle their excess profits back into private federal reserve accounts. This could also account for the secrecy of the owners of these accounts.

If OPEC and other foreign countries are successful in changing the currency for buying oil, the US dollar will no longer be needed. The Russian Securities Exchange recently opened direct trading between the Chinese currency, the Renminbi, and the Russian Ruble. Other smaller foreign nations are presently discussing switching to the Euro. At this point, two things will happen. The US will go to war(WWIII) to keep of oil and the mega profits they are making as a result of the petrodollar recycling process. They did it in Iraq when the Bush administration found out Saddam Hussein was in the process of changing the currency to gold for all Iraq's oil. The Bush administration put a stop to that by going to war to fight the so called war against terrorism, which was pure bullshit. They gave the same reasons for going to war with Afghanistan when they really wanted to secure the Caspian Oil Pipeline that extended through that country.

Every year the federal reserve must create debt in excess of the debt and interest of the previous year to keep the petrodollar system functioning. The results are clear. When debt is created, money is created. When debt is paid off, money is destroyed. There will never be enough to pay off the debt which leaves consumers stuck in a never ending rat race to keep up. So do not expect for things to get better. They will only get worse at this point and there is a reason for that. Its because the owners(1%) of this country want more for themselves and less for us (99%). So, their bottom line is their master and they do not give a dam about the American people, never have and never will. As long as the owners of this country have control of nation's money, they do not care who makes the laws.

Abolish The Federal Reserve Banking System of America. Our nation's leaders must push towards free energy and a sustainable way of life. If this sounds like the American dream, your right because you have to be asleep to believe it. If you are a firm believer that the US dollar will collapse, and it eventually will, call "Orange Blossom Note Services",at (512) 417-2933 and ask for Kenneth Kern. He can provide you with a fast reliable cash solution for any owner financed contract you want to sell. Why wait? Call now while there is still time.

Low-Maintenance Lawn Alternatives: Ground Cover

If you want a yard that demands less time, money, and water, consider ground cover rather than a traditional lawn

If you?re looking for an alternative, consider replacing some or all of your high-maintenance turf with ground covers that form walkable ?carpets,? and innovative?grasses?that require little or no water or mowing once established.

In turn, you?ll reduce the need for irrigation, stop washing harmful chemicals into the watershed, add depth and texture to your landscape, and spend your spare time enjoying your yard instead of manicuring it.

Creeping perennials, clover, and other ground covers

There?s a ground cover to meet most needs, whether you?re planting a pathway, a hedge, or a broad swath of green. They run the gamut of foliage textures and colors, and many have wonderful flowers. Some varieties are ground-hugging and feel delicious under bare feet. Others grow up to two feet tall, making them ideal as barriers or landscape punctuation.

Look for attributes that meet your needs: child-durable, deer-resistant, drought-tolerant, shade-loving. Mixing them up is not only aesthetically pleasing, it?s also good for the landscape: Diversity increases resistance to pests and disease and reduces the need for fertilizer and pesticides. Here are some popular choices.

Creeping perennials:?Tight to the ground, these plants are especially good for cushy green carpets. They keep out weeds and allow air, water, and nutrients to get to plant roots. Many work equally well in rock gardens or in crevices between stepping stones, in full or partial sun. These include mat-forming New Zealand Brass Buttons (Cotula squalida) and Scotch or Irish Moss (Sagina subulata), which isn?t a moss at all but a perennial that forms a cushiony blooming carpet.

Some, like Blue Star Creeper (Laurentia fluviatilis), which has tiny green foliage, bear up to heavy foot traffic. Creeping Jenny (Convolvulus arvensis) has an extensive root system that makes it quick to spread and tough to kill. That?s a good thing if you?re looking for a tough turf alternative but a problem if it creeps into beds where you don?t want it.

Besides being good creepers, many ground-hugging perennial herbs are often nicely scented, hardy under foot traffic, and even edible. These include chamomile (Chamaemelum nobile), which has fern-like foliage and white flowers with yellow centers; Corsican mint (Mentha requienii), which thrives in shade, exudes a minty smell when trod upon, and is edible; and various thymes (Woolly, Red, Prostrate), which feature dainty flowers and work well between pavers or as a low mounding carpet.

Creeping perennials cost $6 to $10 per plant. A 15-by-20-foot area with plants 2 inches apart (for instant density) requires 300 plants. But if you?re patient enough to wait a year or so for them to spread, you can buy fewer plants and space them 12 inches apart.

Clover:?Although clover has gotten a bad rap as a weed, it?s actually not a weed at all. In fact, a clover lawn (or, for high-traffic areas, a clover-grass mix) has many advantages. Sweet-scented, inexpensive, and quite durable, white clover (Trifolium repens) grows in any kind of soil, stays green even during low-water periods, and feels lovely underfoot.

Low-growing clover doesn?t need regular cutting, nor does it need fertilizer, but an occasional mow will encourage new growth and discourage bees. If you don?t mind the bees, consider letting your clover bloom, which benefits the bees and the environment. Clover is one of the least expensive groundcover options, costing about $4 to seed 4,000 square feet.
