How Great Entrepreneurs Create Their Own Luck

696This is the story of how a young Irish fine artist accidentally became a materials scientist, founding a high-growth company that created a whole new product category. It?s also a parable for how great entrepreneurs systematically create their own luck. Jane ni Dhulchaointigh is the founder and CEO of Sugru, a London-based startup that makes an amazing moldable adhesive for repairing any physical object. It?s a cross between silly putty and duct tape, a space age rubber that can be molded into any desired shape by hand, and that sticks to a vast array of surfaces. With customers in over 100 countries, and all seven continents, Sugru has taken the world by storm.

Selena Gomez Debuts Sexy Fragrance Ad

Selena Gomez. In many ways, she's just like your regular 19-year old, horsing around with pals during the weekend, baking cupcakes, having a blast.

In other ways, well, she's a tad bit different. And not just because a kiss with her boyfriend at the Lakers game becomes national news the following day.

Also because she's about to launch her very first perfume, simply titled "Selena Gomez," and she stars in the first promotional ad for it. The first mature, sexy promotional ad for it, we should say. See for yourself:

Selena Gomez Fragrance Ad

The perfume will be available exclusively at Macy's next month, retailing in different sizes for $35, $45 and $55. Think you'll pick up a bottle?

Wolfram Alpha releases first desktop PC app for Windows 7, makes homework even easier

Wolfram Alpha releases first desktop PC app for Windows 7; homework just keeps getting easier

Have a habit of letting Wolfram Alpha do your math for you? Well, say hello to one more tool in your computational arsenal -- the electronic homework lackey self-described knowledge engine is now available as a Windows 7 desktop app for $2.99 at the Intel AppUp store. In addition to providing desktop analytics on the works of the Bard, the Wolfram Alpha app features extended copy / paste support for graphics and queries, a full-screen optimized user interface and a special software keyboard with native support for special characters. If that isn't enough, the company also plans to drop even more knowledge at the AppUp center later this year in the form of "course assistant apps" for such geeky subjects as astronomy, physics and chemistry. Still got queries about the desktop app? Then satiate that thirst for information by imbibing in the PR after the break.

Katherine Heigl and Josh Kelley Adopt Second Child!

Katherine Heigl and Josh Kelley have welcomed a new baby.

The couple, already parents to a three-year-old daughter, Naleigh, whom they adopted from South Korea, have welcomed a second child, who is also adopted!

“Yes they have adopted a baby,” Jill Fritzo, who represents the former Grey's Anatomy actress, confirmed. “No further details [are available] at this time.”

Katherine Heigl, Family

Katherine Heigl, whose sister Meg was adopted, says that adoption was always the plan for a family with her singer-songwriter husband, whom she wed in 2007.

“Josh and I started talking about it before we were even engaged,” the actress, 33, said back in January. “We have talked about having biological children as well, but we both decided to adopt first, and I’d like to adopt again.”

And they have! Congratulations to the happy, growing family!

Growing Up Geek: Sarah Silbert

Welcome to Growing Up Geek, an ongoing feature where we take a look back at our youth and tell stories of growing up to be the nerds that we are. Today, we have our new reviews editor, Sarah Silbert.

Image

I'm not your textbook-case geek. On that authoritative dork-geek-nerd venn diagram, I sit undeniably closer to the nerd quadrant. I mean, a childhood defined by penning mini-zines, banging on the piano and filming countless movies in my garage hardly earned me a reputation as a precocious little techie. Sure, I liked computers and math -- and I, er, may have graphed the distribution of my Halloween candy once or twice, just for fun -- but my entryway into gadgets and geekdom was an overactive imagination.
